Postby Guest » 31 Jul 2006 12:32

I have some .Mov files I can't play properly. There is audio, but no video :(
Why? Can I solve this?

MOV is a container. What's the formats inside the container?

Press ctrl i and go to the Advanced Info.. tab. This page will tell you, post that info.. here. :)

It's that motion JPEG stuff, use 0.8.4 version of VLC to play it.

There have been quite a few people here that say 8.5 doesn't work for them with mjpeg where 8.4 or 8.4a does. There are also other bugs that have been introduced in streaming, playing DVDs and the skins 2 interface.

Perhaps it's time to consider paying more attention to the functionality before moving ahead with new features. It's always nice to improve the player but if the over all preformance of various plugins suffers are people going to keep using it?

VLC 0.8.5 plays this kind of file here as well.
not for me definately...I have VLC 0.8.5 and whatever I try I can't see any video in this kind of .mov file (they came from a digital camera I have). I think I'll go back to the previous version 'cos this one doesn't just seem mature enough. :?

VLC 0.8.5 plays this kind of file here as well.
Version 0.8.5 is definately not playing MJPEG based MOV files on my computer while VLC v0.8.4a is playing the same file without any problem on the same computer.

This has already been reported MANY times from MANY different users.
Some examples:

viewtopic.php?t=22925
viewtopic.php?t=23689

And there are many more threads about this issue.

Don't use PMs for support questions.

video doesn't show up

Code: Select all

sdl_image warning: SDL_image couldn't load the image (Unsupported image format)
tested with vlc-0.8.6-svn-20060803-1310

strange... 0.8.5 under windows only plays the sound of the file, while 0.8.5 under linux shows the video quiet fine....

Yep, problem seems to be Windows only.
Maybe that SDL problem?

.mov workaround

Postby marktxx » 18 Aug 2006 16:32

on Windows
open .mov file with vlc 0.8.5
Check ‘Stream Output’
select output file name with .mp4 extension
b. Check MP4 for Encapsulation Method
c. Check Video Codec, choose mp4v in drop-down, choose Bitrate 1024, Scale 1*

my files were from my digital camera (jpeg codec)

Click ‘OK’

now VLC can play it :)

work for me but i think that there is a real bug inside VLC

i order to play all my *.mov file

i have put this line into regedit :

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VLC.mov\shell\Play\command]

"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --one-instance-when-started-from-file "%1" :sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,vb=1024,scale=1}:duplicate{dst=display}

now when double clic on a mov sequence (i have only *.mov from my digital camera) it play very well !!

thanks to you guy !

Yep, problem seems to be Windows only.
Also happens on Mac OS X (tried with 0.85 as well as trunk-20060902).

VLC and .MOVfiles from my Digicam

Postby der_alte » 11 Sep 2006 15:33

Hello,

i have Problems too viewing '.MOV'-files from my
Casio-digicam on VLC 0.85 and several nightly-builds of VLC 0.86
on my w98se(en)-system. In VLC 0.84a it works fine !

It seems to be only a windows-only-problem.
(i know, windows itself _is_ a problem)

It will be nice, this Problem could be fixed in the next Version.

thanks
martin
