No Video in playing quicktime

Hi! I have installed latest version (0.85) VLC on new XP. I tried to play some .mov from my dig. cam but I've only sound (no video). Can someone tells me what happen and if there's any fix??

I too have the same problem. MP4d files give me sound but no video. It worked on .84

I've got the same problem, only sound no video for .mov files. Quicktime shows the movies fine.

I've tried hundred of .MOV files and I have the same problem but only with files using the JPEG format which plays fine on v0.8.4a but not on v0.8.5.

My first thought on this topic was that the format is not supported and the included Messages file seems to indicate this. "sdl_image warning: SDL_image couldn't load the image (Unsupported image format)"

Would be nice to know what information is given in Stream and Media Information, Advanced?

I realize that QT says it's a "Photo - JPEG" format and I also realize this is not officially supported.

Supported Formats

Yet, you say that this format worked fine in VLV 0.8.4. There have been times where experimental support for a format has appeared and disappeared for one reason or another as VLC is modular. This is not a particularly common format and it is even possible it was overlooked or forgotten at compile time for 0.8.5-final

I can only suggest trying one or both of the two following things:

1. Try putting in a request in the Feature Requests section of this Forum and see what comes back.

2. Reporting this problem as a bug.

Same problem here. Dozens of .mov files from my camera that worked fine on 0.8.4 no longer work on 0.8.5 Soiund is fine, but no picture - can I get the old version back?

Task: Goal was to import clips from a DVD, using VLC, and then export (transcode) in a file format which could be read by Windows MovieMaker or Quicktime Pro for editing.

Problem: VLC version 0.8.5 would not create readable files, regardless of the many combinations of file formats, containers, etc. we tried.

SOLUTION: Thanks to this forum, it became clear that there is a serious problem with the VLC version 0.8.5 on Windows 2000 machines. We uninstalled the 0.8.5 and downloaded the older version 0.8.4 and immediately everything worked correctly and we were able to accomplish the task. There is no doubt that the TROUBLE was with 0.8.5.

So, if someone else out there is trying to get files out of VLC into Windows Moviemaker, here is the formula for future reference:

Once a good version of VLC is running (in this case, use 0.8.4), the correct settings to transcode the file is: select: WMV2 for the Video format MP3 for the Audio format ASF for the encapsulation method Then, the file which is created can be imported into the Windows Mediamaker for editing.

So, the bad new version not to be used is: v0.8.5 The good \"old\" version which works is: v0.8.4a or v0.8.4 I

f you are trying to take clips off a DVD using VLC and save them in a quicktime format which quicktime pro could edit (or import into iMovie on a Mac), then use the transcode setting for MP4 (we set them manually by clicking the transcode buttons and selecting Mpeg 4 on all three places).
