I do not know why, but VLC 0.8.2 can play mov files, the same files are not played by next versions of VLC even by newest 0.8.5 one. While VLC does support the MOV container it may not support the format inside the container.
Check out the Main page under supported formats.
There is always the Feature Requests section of this forum.
Pardons for a "dummies" type question, but, how would one go about discovering what filetypes are inside a given .mov container? And, given that .mov is an Apple/Mac convention, wouldn't it/they likely be other Apple/Mac formats/conventions, most of which VLC already plays willingly?.mov is a container! What are the formats inside the container (Audio & Video)????
Same here, mov files (made with the digital camera) which played fine with 0.8.4a dont show a picture with 0.8.5 - tried it on different machines. But the new version 0.8.5 stopped playing the video clips generated from my digital camera althought 0.8.4a played them with no problem.
