rtmp streaming flv

Postby chew.zeta@gmail.com » 15 Mar 2006 17:36

On http://www.osflash.org/red5 are analyzing the flash communication server protocol for streaming files to flash player.

I will like to stream form vlc to a flash player in a web page.

Is it possible to implement rtmp protocol in vlc?

Compliments to vlc developers for their incredible work.

It might be. But none of the devs will do it unless they need it desperately ... which means that you'll have to do it your self if you really need it. We don't have enough man power. sorry.

FLV under RTMP

Well, this is too bad !

Such a feature would be a killer one and VLC would be even more a key software in the world... You would break into Macromedia empire on web streaming video... Sorry, now it's even worse, it's Adobe empire... Don't need it?

I'd love to know how to do it... but I don't.

If you can give us some online ressources to learn by ourself how to do it (recording network activity, analyzing datagram, and so on...), I'm sure we would be numerous trying to help you for this...

Just to let you know about Flash Streaming point : it cost 4500$ for each 150 simultaneous users with no bandwith limitation (1000 w/ bwdth up to 40Mbps, 2500 w/ bwdth up to 25Mbps). For a 2000 simultaneous users with no bandwith limitation, it costs 90000$... If VLC was able to stream flv files under rtmp protocol, that'd be a lot less money for Adobe...

i looked at red5 site and its a server application from what i saw. can you spoonfeed me a bit? is there a player part that can play an rtmp stream from its URL [this isnt hard to find] so i dont have to put up with the other junk on the web page? there are no players i have found that recognize/handle the rtmp protocol.
