Hope also I'm asking the following in the correct place .

Here is my problem :
I've got the very last VLC version (3.0.16 vetinari)

I'm watching yt videos perfectly via VLC (links like : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6x_kbxnP_A) are superb, like a lot of others !!

But, impossible to read links like :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uluYl6Un8p4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQzCIaGx-Bo
and many others ….

The screen error message about the second link is :(cjoint link)
ttps://www.cjoint.com/c/KIgoExoNTnt

Besides of that, I tried to replace « youtube.lua » file by that one :(cjoint link) https://www.cjoint.com/c/KIgoEZCDI4t

No change !

Thanks to all of you about your Heeeeeelp !!!!

No problem here.

Try updating the youtube.luac file with the version released on September 4: https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=158091

Thanks for help Hitchhiker, I've overwritten youtube.luac files, as you said, and tried again ....

No more error message, but VLC screen remains black, with the cone in the middle. I also tried with an other link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQzCIaGx-Bo, same problem !

I don't doubt what you say, but could you please check the vlc Playlist directory located at C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\playlist and check whether all the .luac files still have a generic icon, or whether they now display a Notepad icon. Here's an image of what they should look like. Depending on your Windows setup you might have to change the View to Details (right click ---> View ---> Details).

Image

In that respect it's a common mistake to forget to change "Text documents" in the "Save As Type" field to "All Files" when creating a youtube.luac file.

If they all show a generic icon then do the following to create a log file.

  1. Start vlc, but don't play a video yet. Instead, click Tools ---> Messages (or just hit Ctrl + M).
  2. At the bottom of the Messages window where it reads "Verbosity" change it from "0 (errors)" to "2 (debug)".
  3. Leave the Messages window on screen and then load a youtube video that doesn't work for you.
  4. When it stops with just the traffic cone showing open the Messages window and then copy the log which has been created. You can use the "Save As" option, or place the cursor anywhere in the text and hit Ctrl + A to highlight the contents and then Ctrl + C to copy to the Windows clipboard.
  5. Finally, go to https://pastebin.com/ and paste the log into the "New Paste" field. Give it a name and click "Create New Paste". This will change the URL at the top. Copy that and then paste it into your next post please. No need to create an account there and the document will remain on the site for 30 days.

So I replaced youtube.luac with the September 4 new one. Things are better. I can see some YouTube videos, and some I cannot. Is there something else here I missing.

here's a video I tried and it worked okay.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IF3N7ishm-0

this one I wouldn't get to work.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQyxwSBMYPc&t=361s

here is the log it generated. I also included the ones that did work so you can see what's going on.

-- logger module started --
main: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
avcodec: Using D3D11VA (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, vendor 10de(NVIDIA), device 1b80, revision a1) for hardware decoding

Your help would be appreciated.

DEFINITELY very very strange : .....

As I said few minutes ago : both links mentionned by Ray66 didn't work (with the youtube.luac date 4th of september), but : nothing was happening on the screen, I didn't have any error message

I just reinstalled VLC with the original youtube.luac file, and like you, guys, the 1st link is working, but not the second one !!! ... and I have an error message

Okay I have an update here
I replaced the youtube.luac in Linux Mint and it works perfectly. No errors whatsoever. In all settings in vlc are said to their default settings

But it does not work in Windows 10 . I even use the same videos
is there a different version of youtube.luac for Windows 10?

Not that I'm aware of, no.

Which version of Windows 10 are you running? If you don't know open the Run command, type WINVER and hit Enter.

There's nothing in your log that indicates a problem as far as I can tell.

Try another output module. Open preferences (Ctrl + P) click the Video button and you'll find the list of them via the dropdown menu.

You can also click the Input/Codecs button and where it reads Hardware-accelerated decoding, change it from Automatic to DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA 2.0).

If you make any changes to vlc click Save, exit and restart.

This shouldn't be necessary because the previous youtube.luac file addressed the issue of cookie forwarding by dropping them if the youtube Cookie Consent requirement appears.

Still, I'm glad to hear your links are working now.

I also selected "Direct 3D 11" in the codecs entries and video, otherwise it didn't work in automatic mode.
