Does VLC make use of the GPU in some way that others do not?
The bug in question is a Samsung driver bug, as revealed by the testing. VLC functions perfectly well on all other phones/tablets w.r.t. this problem.
Graphics firmware can be hard to debug sometimes, so it may be that VLC has stumbled across a poorly tested combination of circumstances. Note that this is not VLC's problem.
