Help us test VLC for Android and report bugs

I have downloaded VLC-debug-20130805-0105.apk, VLC-debug-20130921-1739 and VLC-debug-20130923-0104 for Android v7 for my Droid 4. Tried to install by choosing one of these from the OI file manager, but only the Cancel button works. Install button does nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Under Settings| Security & Screen Lock | Device Administrators | Unknown sources is a check box which is activated to allow unknown sources. The phone has been set this way. I've also tried to install from the default File Manager and with an Installer Ver. 3.1.0 Rhythm Software. All do the same non-install.

We have 2 devices, both on AT&T in US: HTC One X (dual core Snapdragon) & HTC One X+ (Tegra 3 quad). The Play Store says that VLC is incompatible with both. Why is that & how can I get VLC? Do I have to resort to nightlies &, if so, which version? Thanks!

I want to say thanks for placing the link in the very first note. I had been using Joe VCL and it stopped working a few weeks ago. I am a huge VCL fan and tell everyone to use it. I installed VCL for Android Beta and it works great!

Well, we did some testing and you can see the results below:

Basically VLC's output reaches Android perfectly fine, as seen from the debugger, but it fails to make the jump due to a bug in the Samsung hardware overlay. This was verified as VLC works perfectly when hardware overlays are disabled in Android system settings.

The bug in question is a Samsung driver bug, as revealed by the testing. VLC functions perfectly well on all other phones/tablets w.r.t. this problem.

Graphics firmware can be hard to debug sometimes, so it may be that VLC has stumbled across a poorly tested combination of circumstances. Note that this is not VLC's problem.

Well, VLC renders the video through the Android surface, which is the standard way to render custom pixmaps on Android. IIRC MXplayer was landscape only, so maybe they don't have that problem.
