Can't download rtsp/mov stream?

Postby Juggalo » 01 Nov 2009 18:21

I'm trying to download this stream:
rtsp://mp4streams.omroep.nl/ceres/vpro/rest/2009/VPRO_1135198/bb.20091018.mov

But the .mov file I'm getting is pretty messed up: the movie is jumping (as if I'm rapidly feeding forward & backward), disturbed image, sound is chunky. I can see flashes or short parts of the correct content, but it's totally unwatchable. As if I'm streaming at a way too low bitrate or something.

Here's what I do:
- Open Network Stream (Ctrl+N)
- Copy/paste the rtsp link above
- Click the small dropdown menu (next to Play) and choose Stream (Alt+S)
- (source is already specified, click Next
- File, Add, and then I fill in C:\test.mov or something
- Optionally, I disable the 'Activate transcoding' option (it doesn't seem to make a difference for this problem), when enabled I leave it at the default profile, Video H.264 + AAC
- Next, and Stream

It now starts streaming, the .mov file is growing. But when done, the resulting file shows the problems described above.

Am I doing anything wrong? :?:

Oh, btw - I'm talking about the Windows version here (VLC 1.0.3) but in case this is a general problem, perhaps it applies on other platforms as well?

Don't download and transcode at the same time. So download with demuxdump first and after that transcode if you must.

I don't know if I fully understand, but when I try this from the command line:

Code: Select all

vlc rtsp://mp4streams.omroep.nl/ceres/vpro/rest/2009/VPRO_1135198/bb.20091018.mov :demux=dump :demuxdump-file=test.mov
VLC starts playing the stream, and doesn't seem to create "test.mov" or download anything.
I've also tested with an explicit path, like :demuxdump-file=C:\Temp\test.mov but that didn't make any difference.

By the way, is this different from the procedure I described above, with disabling the 'Activate transcoding' checkbox?

Thanks!

Via GUI you can do the same, if you check Dump raw input, but it seems it doesn't work either. I have to investigate this.

I have exactly the same problem! I didn't try to save the stream, just play it.

The original address is http://hstreaming.zdf.de/zdf/veryhigh/0 ... on_hsh.mov, and it links to
rtsp://ondemand.quicktime.zdf.newmedia.nacamar.net/zdf/data/quicktime/zdf/09/06/090623_armageddon_hsh_h.mp4

It seams that VLC tries to play the file too fast and skips frames. The longer it plays, the worse it gets. I hope someone can help.

For downloading the issue seems to be
trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/2808
that.

Playback seems to have different issues
