VLC for iphone and ipod touch

Postby mirak63 » 15 Oct 2007 16:38

Hi, it seems those two are cracked, some already installed ssh server and client, so I guess there is hope to have VLC running on it someday since it's OS X also isn't it ?

it's not OSX at all
i don't know what kind of processor is in those devices, but that would probably require a full port and a new interface to be developped.

as long as familiar linux has vlc available for it, I see no reason why iPhone needn't have it, BUT...

1. iPhone is just a single gadget, not at all popular enough to put indevelopement efforts
2. The processor is quite light, and only something like apple's own OS, optimised for iPhone can work
3. There is already a project called Rockbox, which should serve your perpose(I guess the iPhone port is not yet developed, but still...)

......anyway, as long as a devloper is intrested in VLC for iPhone and iPod Touch, you are lucky.

We will surely have a look at the announced SDK once it arrives in February. It shouldn't be to hard to compile for it, as these devices are based on generic PDA CPUs which VLC's sources already support due to the started WinCE port. The hardest parts are probably the GUI and getting test devices.

any updates on this btw?

I'd be interested in seeing VLC running on an Ipod touch. Imagine the possibilities... streaming... divx/xvid/wmv etc...

apparently the iPod Touch is running a cut-down version of the OS-X is this correct?

There are no updates on this we could publish at this point.

For details on the iPhone's / the iPod touch's operating system called iPhone OS, please check Apple's official websites. :)

That looks like it is the homepage of the program.
