Picture viewing in VLC

Are there any plans to make VLC more compatible with picture viewing? Currently it loads them into the playlist, but the pictures have yellow and green lines all over them, and then the player shuts down. If this feature is added then it could replace a couple of other programs for picture viewing. (Adobe Photoshop and Windows Picture and Fax Viewer)

Just some JPEGs, PNGs, GIFs. So if this is a bug, could VLC 0.9 be the solution to this problem?
