I know... But you still need the eMule Part File Plugin to get partial files to play.. ;)

Have you checked the URLs??

There are only plugins for v0.8.1, v0.8.2, v0.8.4 and v0.8.5... :(

Yup! They are always at least 1 version behind and you must stay within the versions for it to work.

Plugin for v0.8.5 was released 3 days after VLC was..
Plugin for v0.8.4 was released 6 days after VLC was...

They are alway up to date...

That's real nice that you have been keeping track of this, but the VLC team is not making these nor is there support for this here. So I would suggest contacting the appropriate person responsible for providing this for your program.

I provided links to the website! That's the place to look for or ask for updates if that's possible. That info has never been here.

Unfortunately it seems that the 'native' support for incomplete files has become worse since version 0.8.5.

With previous versions, it was often possible to even scroll incomplete files, but since 0.8.5 and its additional 'warning window' this is only rarely possible.
Even with the partfile plugin, things have become worse since 0.8.5, so without a partfile plugin 0.8.6 is IMHO not really usable for partially downloaded movie files :(

Are there any plans to improve support for partial files (from emule or elsewhere) in future version (again) ?
Or is there a setting I missed that makes newer version work just as well as the older ones did?

(btw: it's not just my personal impression, this is discussed on many (mainly filesharing) boards too)

VLC does not support eMule, bittorent or in a much larger sense incomplete files.
Those plugins were developed by either eMule developers or people in the eMule community; you will need to ask them if you want this to work with VLC.

Thank you for the fast reply!

Yes, I know that VLC is not developed specifically for that purpose.
What I mean is that with older version, it worked pretty well, while since 0.8.5 it doesn't anymore, so something must have changed I assume (which increased the necessity or a 3rd party plugin, while before it worked well without it).

So just in case you misunderstood me (I'm obviously not a native english speaker :p )
I don't ask you for a plugin, but rather to restore the native support for incomplete files that previous versions provided (if this is possible).

There has never been native support for incomplete files. The only support that exists, is for avi files that are being downloaded in sequence NOT torrent style and this support is recent.

Ok, I see what you mean.

Even though I certainly don't want to argue with a dev about that, I'm still very sure that scrolling incomplete files worked much better (even without any 3rd party plugin) with version < 0.8.5 (before the dialog that asks if you want to repair the file was introduced).

The way it is now, many files that can hardly be previewed with VLC can be played with e.g. ZP and its DS-filters without problems.

Just to make it clear, that's not supposed to be ranting, just wanted to let you know (and ask if there's anything a user can do about that).

Playing partially downloaded files is not like streaming the file and Direct Show filters and or players can't do it either. Try AVIPreview as it was built to do this.

Try this :
http://sbegouin.free.fr/vlc_emule_plugin_0.8.6a.zip

(only 1 different bit between this one and the plugin for 0.8.5)

You can download it from this mirror too :

Thank you, I'll definitely give it a try!

Have you already announced it in the emule forums?
I'm sure you'd make many people really happy :)

I've announced it on emule forum but they seem to dislike posts from newbies...

Anyway, the plugin works very well !! :)

Help with emule config

Postby Iluvatar » 18 Mar 2007 05:48

Hi,

Sorry I'm a newbie and have just downloaded the VLC application. I also downloaded the compatible plugin for V0.8.6a and it doesn't work for me. I tried it on a 86% complete download and VLC plays nothing .

Can someone please help me?
