live video to the internet

Postby thesamet » 18 Dec 2006 11:22

Hi,

I'd like to create a system to allow a website site editor to broadcast live video from webcam at home, to a remote server. The server will stream the live feed over the internet.

Is VLC (or VLS) supposed to handle such situations? Can it handle >100 simultaneous users?

I'd like to get some pointers on how to setup this.

Thanks,
Nadav

Hi there!

If you’re searching for a broadcaster along with web conferencing and collaboration modules I recommend Streaming BASE.
Streaming BASE will allow for content producers, trainers, streaming editors and film makers to collaborate on a film and still images in real time.
This allows users to broadcast a LIVE video conference while:
1. Presenting streaming video or slides
2. Allow members to watch streaming media in a group setting
3. Members may view media and chat at the same time
4. Presenter and members may comment on the media
5. May be used for LIVE shows as well as prerecorded events

A helpful tool to encode any video format into a FLV format is also Monster Encoder. Encoder is a video encoding tool set which allows you to upload and publish unlimited video formats. Once encoded, videos are organized into video galleries and may be streamed by web site or cell phone users.

Hello gemgem!

I don’t know why you are making this so complicated. I will tell you how we setup streams and broadcast events. We simply plug in the camera and the microphone into the Windows XP system. It connects to our FMS server and this way we broadcast to an unlimited number of people, video and audio in FULL SCREEN mode. Yes…it’s as easy as you imagine.

The harder we work the luckier we get!
Thank you!

I have a site that should transmit video from a videocam (liveTV, not webconferences). How i do that with VLC? VLC works has a streaming server in this situation?

Thanks for the answers

Hello!

For your LiveTV the best solution is JAMONCAM, a software especially created for live or prerecorded video/audio streaming. It delivers streaming video hosting solutions and also works with Flash Media Server which is the best you can choose, in this case.
For further details or if you have any other questions don't hesitate to contact me.
