I recently tried the lastest build on my iMac C2D. Everything worked fine, and I really like the Apple Remote support. But it would be great if the menu-button the remote turned on/off full-screen mode!

Is there any way that you can turn off the Apple Remote support in VLC?

It crashes my system when pressing Play/Pause (I use another program for VLC Apple Remote support; Remote Buddy).

No, it cannot be turned of. If there is a crash, then either of the two programs should simply be fixed.

Then I would like to ask for an option to turn it off please.

It would be very useful as some of the other remote programs like Remote Buddy has more advanced control over the Apple Remote. You can program it to do various things and assign button commands.

This cannot be done in VLC.

Is it possible to use the Apple Remote to navigate through dvd menu's?

I tried it with 0.8.6rc1, but pressing the right button seems to ffwd the menu, and start doesn't do anything at all. It doesn't crash or so, just doesn't function the way I hoped it would work.

No not yet. This requires the appleremote module to know when a DVDmenu is loaded, and atm, it cannot yet. It will be on the "todo" list.

when viewing an avi file (divx + 'ms') some times there are green line running diagonally from top right to bottom left. it happens on the intel version of 0.8.5 but not on the ppc version. I have screen shots of this but I do not know how to attach them.

I have been trying the nightly builds of Intel v0.9.0. With builds after 30 November I am unable to open the preferences - vlc just crashes every time. I have tried deleting the preferences by using the script and manually but the problem still occurs, only now all my menus are in French and I am unable to change them back to English without going back to the previous version.

Is anyone else having this problem? I haven't seen mention on the forum so it may just be my machine.

Are the default French menus normal? I've always had to change them to English via the preferences despite all my regional options being English/British. When I have selected 'Anglais Britannique' and restarted vlc, a lot of options are still in French.

I think I found a display bug. I am using VLC 8.6 on a 10.4.8 early Intel mac mini.

If I enable "always on top" , full screen control does not appear. Moving the mouse up also causes a display bug where the time appears from the top desktop bar.

If I disable "always on top", the full screen control appears and everything works.

Can anyone else confirm this bug?

I would not mind the bug if there was an easy way toggle "always on top". There does not seem to be a shortcut key or a way to access it in full screen. I would even prefer that VLC ignore "always on top" in full screen as I doubt I will need it to be on top at the same time.

I am having the same problem running VLC Intel 0.9 on my MacBook. Some of my menus are in Japanese, while others are in English. I wonder if this has to do with running the odd Japanese DVD. I too also deleted my prefs with no change in the result. Frustrating.

Any advice.

However, since around the 0.8.5 to present builds, the system is very unstable on my macbook pro (core duo 2.0Ghz, 2GB).

It seems to crash randomly. While opening files, during playback, right now I am watching a divx video, and the "fading" control panel overlay is frozen in mid-fade, i must Force Quit.

I was just wondering if anyone else is having troubles like I am.

Is there any nightly builds that seem to be more stable? Please help.

Moving-the-mouse-while-controller-is-fading-out-crash is a known bug. It annoyed me, as I like to drag the controller around when I'm bored watching long video lectures, so I submitted a minor patch to ticket #978. It resolves the problem on my Macbook, but I don't know if the patch is acceptable.

Anyway, I guess the developers will fix the problem when they have some free time on their hands. In the meantime, you can try to disable the fullscreen controller in the interface preferences.

I live in the USA and have been using VLC on a G4 powerbook running 10.4.8 to view European DVDs (Region 2). Great- no problem. We recently got an Intel dual core iMac (also running OS X 10.4.8 ) but VLC won't work on it with Region 2 DVDs (I don't want to change the setting on the Apple DVD player). It recognizes the DVD and for a second the title of the DVD shows up on the VLC controller window but it then disappears and nothing happens. Any ideas? I am running the most recent VLC version for Intel Macs. Hopefully I just need to change my preferences.

I have the same problem (MBPro core 2). Unfortunately there's nothing the VLC team can do about it. Apple has been a real bitch and put in a double check of the region, both hardware and software apparently, and Vlc just won't work. You need to flash the drive's firmware to make it region-free. However there's nothing for the new MatSHITa drives.

So you can (1) either watch your dvds on a PC or (2) change your dvd drive that is flashable, or get an external flashable drive or (3) send all your dvds to Steve and tell him to stick'em in his precious ass.

exactly the same. i just googled it and read someone disabling the floating controller to avoid that bug, which i did, and that seemed to work fine, but i just loaded up another AVI and i ffed a little, and started over and it crashed again. i LOVE this media player, you guys rock! im on .8.9a

I am seeing frequent crashes with vlc, and they all seem to be related to bringing up the Quartz layer seek bar. Mine look a little differnt though

Here is the last log from a very brief play of a MKV file containing a DTS soundtrack. The receiver I am using identifies it as DTS but plays only short clips a few frames long and then goes silent for a second or two. This behavior was already evident in the short play time shown in this log. I have noticed the same thing in 8.5, 8.6c, and the newest nightly. VLC seems to be able to properly play the file when downmixing the audio to analogue, but cannot properly output over spdif.

I also demuxed the dts stream with mkvextract, it failed to play properly.
