smooth video playback - sync output...

Postby nw42 » 20 Nov 2006 17:36

Hi!

I would like to see an improved sync between player application - audio card and video card (I know this is very complicated)

Compared with a standard hardware DVD player VLC has very unshmooth and jittered output. Fast paning sceens are really jerky on large screens.

The Reclock filter shows that it is possible to play smooth videos even in an PC environment. (But as far as I know it's not possible to use it with VLC)

Best Regards

Danko

It's indipendent from the power of your machine - if you have a slow one no wondering that the playback is unsmooth - but if you have a fast powerful machine with expensise components and low CPU load and the video playback is still unsmooth something went wrong...

This has currently different reasons:

1. There is no adequate sync between software video card and audio card
(the DirectX audio renderer Recklock shows how to sync with software)

2. Most highend TFT computer displays (and too much HD TV's) don't support the native frame rates for 25fps PAL and 24fps film playback (they are locked to 60fps and have problems even to play NTSC timings with 59.94fps)

Best regards

Danko
