Problem Exporting VOB to MP4 or MOV with no transcoding

Postby grayner » 03 Nov 2006 10:35

I am trying to transcode VOB files to MP4 or MOV format without recompressing (Just using the different transport container so I don't lose any quality during the recompression process).

I am using VLC 0.8.5 (Intel build) and MAC OSX 10.4.8.

I have tried several exports from various VOB files that play OK in VLC. When I use the 'Streaming/Exporting' wizard, I first make sure that neither the video nor audio codec recode check boxes are selected in the "Transcode" options (to avoid recompressing). I then select "MP4 / MPEG 4" as my "Encapsulation format" options (have tried MOV too), then follow the prompts to output the file.

At that point I get an error popup that is titled "Error" with the words "An error has occurred which probably prevented the proper execution of the program:". A white text box below that text reads:
mux_mp4: unsupported codec a52 in mp4
main: cannot add this stream
mux_mp4: unsupported codec a52 in mp4
main: cannot add this stream

I have tried many combinations and permutations. I can get it to export if I select recoding (in the transcode options window) for both audio and video to a different format, but that obviously defeats my quality goals.

Is this a bug? If not, what am I doing wrong? Is there a workaround to do what I want to do?

Gary.

it just means that you can't put a52 audio (used on dvds) in mp4 container

so you have to transcode the audio to another format
Don't use PMs for support questions.
