Google Video Files (.gvp)

Postby P-e-t-r-u-s » 20 Jun 2006 09:47

As google video gets more and more populair every day, it is stupid that the only program playing the files, is the google video player. However, it would be a large step forward as VLC would play them as well.

There's a small tool that can convert gvp files to avi without transcoding anything, so playing them right away should be childs play for VLC :)

Can also be .gvp afaik.

Anyway, Here's a tool that'll convert google video to AVI. You can even download the source (not really needed though, it's .NET so you might as well decompile it :)).

GVP is a plain text playlist format (for which i'll also add support in VLC). GVI is the video itself and is in fact a normal AVI with fourcc "GOOG" inserted after the AVI header.

Oh yes of course, the GVP is what you give to the google player, and then the player downloads a GVI.

So maybe make GVP supported as a playlist format? :)

Ok, well GVI already worked with VLC :)
I just added GVP support. It will be available in tomorrow's nightly build ( http://nightlies.videolan.org ). Feedback will be appreciated :) (nightly builds are known to be buggy these days)
