i dont know what is wrong but VLC wont play any of my movies the older ones did but the new one wont dose anyone know what is wrong

What do you mean by "VLC won't play"?
Could you give us more details/error messages/logs....

i mean is that i just get a black screen no nothing most of the files i try to play are OGM

OGM is a container. What is the format for Audio and Video?

Have you tried other file types?

It may also be helpful to know your version of Windows and the version of VLC!

AWW i have XP Pro and i just redownloaded VLC so i have the lattest version and yes i have tried others.

In VLC version 0.8.4 the DirectX module was rebuilt to be more compatible with version 9c. Most people got this with SP2 and Microsoft recommended updating the audio and video drivers at that time, offering drivers for some cards on there update web site.

Most people that have experienced BLACK screens here have found that updating the drivers has resolved this issue.

Note: DirectX runtime is constantly updated. The most current is 6/9/06 The version does not change from 9c and these are not automatic.

VLC is a stand alone media player that uses its own libraries to decode media files. It does not use Direct Show nor does it install any DDLs or other helper files on your system. The additions to your registry are purely to support the file extensions so that you can double or right click within a menu and have the file call the player. So there is nothing special about the install.

Because of this it is highly unlikely that VLC is causing problems for other programs installed on your system.

If you went to the manufactures web site and downloaded the latest drivers according to the model of your video card the drivers should work, assuming that the drivers carry a date later than 10/04 IE the card is not real old.

If the card is old and current drivers can NOT be obtained then VLC 0.8.2 maybe the best you can do.
