Subtitle font and size option

Postby ilopeza » 13 Jun 2006 05:00

The normal, large and very large it's too limited, should be able to choose font size and type.

Thanks!

See Settings -> Preferences... -> Video -> Subtitles/OSD -> Text renderer -> check "Advanced options"
You can there set the font type and the font size in pixels.

It looks like somebody is kidding. ;-) No, sorry but there is problem. You forgot on that advanced button or anything else went wrong.
Sorry again I made some other tests durring posting message and found number of things.
First, trere is no Advanced button I could not found, just small All radion mini button. There for I was blinde enough not to see field for pixel size. I was looking for button that would bring some new dialog window.

But more interesting thing is that VLC on Launch asked for old Pref file deletion today. It looks quite different and also subtitle font looks different. Much much better. But not perfect. Arial Black is not suitable font for subtitles. It is missing our accented characters so they are substitued. Arial Bold works fine and should be default fount. BTW, in Mac text render setting dialog is no button to choose font, it is only in Basic view. In Text renderer dialog is Browse button (according CZ localisation) not sure whether for font or font folder location as I guess from what I see.

Second When I made some changes to font size (big, bigger etc) it does not reflect in all dialogs. I made it in basic settings but when showing all no change is visible in TExt renderer prefs and Mac Text renderer as well. Same for color. In Basic Yellow in advanced (All) is it white.
changing value in All (text renderer makes no change. When it is changed in Mac Text renderer as well, that it change in Basic dialog also.
When I succseded to change something and relaunch VLC, it crashed several times before it was able to work again. It hapens several time. Gennerally. Changing font setting and relaunching VLC cause subtitles go huge and VLC crashes till I choose Launch again button in crash dialog. Otherwise it keeps crashing. I have crash log but it is not nice to post it here.

But I could at least crashed thread:
Thread 15 Crashed:
0 libquartztext_plugin.dylib 0x1afc8ff7 RenderYUVA + 859
1 libquartztext_plugin.dylib 0x1afca655 RenderText + 663
2 libvlccore.0.dylib 0x00258ef6 spu_RenderSubpictures + 5881
3 libvlccore.0.dylib 0x00256874 vout_RenderPicture + 2615
4 libvlccore.0.dylib 0x002516b6 RunThread + 918
5 libvlccore.0.dylib 0x00287014 thread_entry + 75
6 libSystem.B.dylib 0x90024227 _pthread_body + 84

Changing font border outline does not change anything I would say. Or change is minimal but I would say none since when I choose background, there is no bacground visible.

I wanted to post some pictures but it seems uselles now.

Hope it will help. I'm lucky subtitles are working well somehow. F... a duck I may had heartbreak. :-O I hitted back button instead of submit one. Thanks God it reimained here. uff.
