VLC ver 0.8.5-test 2 and FC4

Postby khaledma » 11 Apr 2006 21:06

Hi everyone,

I am trying to install vlc 0.8.5-test 2 under FC4, it compiles well and installed without any kind of problems on my system , but its not functioning, ....

i have compiled it with the following options:

./configure --enable-pth --disable-hal --enable-livedotcom --enable-dv --enable-dvdread --enable-smb --enable-v4l --enable-pvr --enable-vcdx --enable-dvb --enable-screen --enable-faad --enable-real --enable-realrtsp --enable-a52 --enable-dts --enable-flac --enable-theora --enable-snapshot --enable-aa --enable-gnutls --with-livedotcom-tree=/usr/lib/live

and againest wxGTK 2.6.2-0.2.2.fc4
and ffmpeg-0.4.9-0.3.20051207.2.fc4

with all the packages needed properly installed,...
it compiled well and installed without any problem under my /usr/local ...tree , but when firing it up after that, ...the windows open,...but can not play any movies , no picture no sound....

can anyone tell me what's wrong here...or any advice

thanks

hi,

yes i have installed the following packages ,

[khaled@tiger ~]$ rpm -qa | grep ffmpeg
ffmpeg-devel-0.4.9-0.3.20051207.2.fc4
gstreamer-ffmpeg-0.8.7-1.2.fc4
ffmpeg-0.4.9-0.3.20051207.2.fc4
ffmpeg-libpostproc-0.4.9-0.3.20051207.2.fc4

------------------------------------------

and its already been built on my system from the SRPM, also the ffmpeg package works well as video/audio converter ... streamer...
and video/audio capture / playback ....

but what do mean by linked to vlc ?
should i link it manually during the configure stage or what ?

thanks

Do you have the ffmpeg developement headers installed ? (check output from ./configure to see if it finds them)

could you also paste the output from "vlc --list" ?

Hi,

Do you have any issues with X errors ?

The window for the video does not open for me. the Motif UI opens but when I try to play the video - craps out on me with

X Error of failed request : BadDrawable.

hi,

Its now working just fine on my FC4 Box, even with TV tuner, the sound is good, as well as the picture.
yesterday i have successfully transmitted a live stream from a camera connected to my TV tuner card, through the network to a windows xp box , and the transmission was perfect.

First, i have downloaded the wxGTK-2.6.3 tarball, compiled it and installed it at /usr/local,
then, modefied the /etc/ld.so.conf file, just add the following line:
/usr/local/lib

save & exit

then run the following command
# /sbin/ldconfig

My configuration options for the wxGTK-2.6.3 is as follows:
[khaled@tiger wxGTK-2.6.3]$ ./configure --enable-plugins
--enable-shared
--enable-config
--enable-xrc
--enable-gpe
--enable-sockets
--enable-datetime
--enable-dialupman

--enable-sysoptions
--enable-textbuf
--enable-textfile
--enable-timer
--enable-unicode
--enable-sound
--with-gtk=2
--with-opengl
--disable-optimise
------------------------------

Next, i have dowloaded the latest vlc snapshot from:
http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/source

the configured it as follows:

$ ./configure --prefix=/usr
--enable-hal
--enable-mkv
--enable-livedotcom
--with-livedotcom-tree=/usr/lib/live
--enable-faad
--enable-flac
--disable-speex

BT878 fc4 help please

Postby bblood » 10 May 2006 16:50

I have been banging my head against the wall over this for quite some time. I can't seem to get a picture from my tv tuner. I get a green screen or a blue screen, but no picture....It looks like it is in PAL mode when it should be in NTCS or maybe it is reading the signl from the composite input rather than the "television" input.

here is the startup string:

v4l:// :v4l-vdev="/dev/video0" :v4l-adev="/dev/dsp" :v4l-norm=1 :v4l-frequency=65250 :v4l-tuner=0:v4l-channel=0

Also, if I start xawtv and set NTSC, Broadcast, US channel 3, the picture will appear just fine.

I want to stream the picture and when I try to start vlc for streaming, it streams what looks like a PAL signal....

Please help!

vlc is switching to PAL no matter what...

Postby bblood » 10 May 2006 17:04

I just checked again...every time I start vlc, it switches the tuner back to PAL....WTF?? If I try to switch the tuner back to NTSC while VLC is streaming, it crashes both VLC and XAWTV.....or the tuner itself....

sort of working...

Postby bblood » 10 May 2006 19:01

I can get the video streaming nicely with this from the commandline:

vlc -vv v4l:/dev/video0:norm=ntsc:size=640x480:adev=/dev/dsp:audio=0 --ttl 12 --sout '#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,acodec=vorb,vb=1000,ab=128,deinterlace}:duplicate{dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,url=192.168.1.2:8080}}'

I got this from another thread in the forum....slightly modified it....Still tinkering with the sound...no luck yet.

Why won't the GUI work when I use it to enter the start string stuff??
