Install VLC on Ubuntu

Hello!

Im trying to install VLC on ubuntu.

I downloaded the sourcecode

and typed

sudo apt-get install vlc.0.8.4a.tar.gz

and then it stands "could not find the package" but i'm sure that i'm are in the right folder..

What is i doing wrong?

can't you just do apt-get install vlc ?

can't you just do apt-get install vlc ?
That's it, just do in a console:

sudo apt-get install vlc

Or open synaptics

i wrote the command 'sudo apt-get install vlc'
but it says "Couldn't find package vlc"
and there is no vlc in adept package manager on my kubuntu? :roll:
