VLS vs VLC streaming: Why not VLS?

Postby MrExNice1979 » 09 Dec 2005 13:46

Í really want to work with VLS on Linux, to support the students of a media academy.

I think it´s raelly neccessary to work with VLS as the streaming server, and not with VLC.

Can anybody explain me, why most of the people say that VLC is better? What I know, is that nobody work on the VLS since 2003 and that VLC is easier to handle.
But can I use VLC as a server on Linux? Isn't VLS stable or good enough?

Please tell me and discuss it with me. I will learn a lot of this topic in the next time so that I can help other people with their problems. ´But please don't tell me about Videolan HowTo or the other things. I know about them, but I want your (maybe other) opinions and other sources.
I think it is really necessary to get a lot of different opinions and tipps for the media world, because VLC/VLS is for free and can be a big help for all the media students and workers on LAN, all around the world.

Come on, let´s do it to another dimension :!:

VLC is easier to use. It handles many more formats than VLS, transcoding, more inputs... and people work on it.

VLS is good if you want dvb/network inputs and want to stream them as is in udp/ts. VLC can handle that too.
