Media streaming /luac files problem.

Postby Steamywee » 02 Aug 2024 19:50

Wanting to copy videos from youtube and find that the stream seems to be found but the screen just flashes up every now and again, doesn't play and obviously I cant progress from there.
Tried downloading the "latest LUAC file from https://github.com/videolan/vlc/blob/ma ... outube.lua but the last "note" was dated August 11th 2023.
copied and renamed youtube.luac

Even downloaded and installed VLC X86 which acts exactly the same, exchanged the "luac" file supplied with the install to the "August 11 2023" version and still the same.

Running out of ideas now!
HELP!
I would add, I don't really know what I'm doing but following the instructions at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jg4Og5ra_F0&t=341s usually sorts it out.
Sadly not this time.

Thanks @Lotesdelere, sorry to have duplicated the problem.
I didn't search for it because I assumed it was 'cos I had messed up the replacement of the luac file.
I will now follow the thread you link to, but just two more questions:
1) Is there a difference between the "dot-luac" and the "dot-lua" file types?
2) Is there a difference between the required "dot-luac" file between X86 and X64 VLC versions?
...Just so that I know!

Having read and subscribed to the two threads: "Is it just Me" and "VLC stopped playing YT", I notice there are a variety of ways it "fails".
As I described, I get a blank screen with occasional flashes of the Thumbnail, usually followed by an error report (gobbldygook to me, sorry!)
On one occasion MBAM blocked me from trying citing malware!
But that was only once, but may be a helpful "clue" to someone.
Sadly, I'm not capable of using the batch file work round which is said to succeed without some "handholding"! (self confessed numpty!)
Thanks again @Lotesdelere for showing me the extent of the problem.

1) LUAC is the compiled version of a LUA script. It's supposed to be faster but both work the same.

2) No, LUA files are just scripts which can work on both x86 and x64 systems.

@Lotesdelere Thanks for explaining those mysteries for me! :)
Learning all the time!
