Download YouTube videos

I have been trying to learn how to download YouTube videos using VLC but am having no luck. I can't even get a YouTube video to play. I seem to be following the instructions, but nothing is happening. I am not a techie so I'm at a loss for what I am doing wrong and learning how to use this tool in VLC. The last tutorial I tried to follow was: https://tinyurl.com/4zx7u5r8. And I also can't figure out how to attach a document. Using Windows 10 and the Chrome browser. VLC is v3.0.18. I would be very grateful for skilled guidance.

win 11 home... opens for few seconds then crashes off screen. not enough time to get codec for mp3 conversion?
