when entering a web address and playing it in vlc network stream. Can I then get a virus in my computer from that website if it is a bad website?

This is very unlikely in practice but theoretically possible if there is an exploitable bug in VLC.

I want to play a video from a website that is kind of weird and I don't trust it. If I paste the link in network stream, assuming that vlc does not have any security holes, could my computer still catch a virus?
