3.4.0 does not play Videos on iOS 16.4.1 (a) reliable

Postby SBA » 03 May 2023 14:43

I have updated to VLC 3.4.0 (580) and can not playback Videos neither locally stored on the iPhone Pro 12 or via SMB from the Fritzbox attached NAS anymore. After deinstallation and new installation, they show up with black screen with sound. Minimizing by tipping the X and then re-enlarging the narrow playbar with the thumb solves the problem temporarily until certain unknown circumstances prevent even this kind of workaround. After forced new start of VLC it does not play any of the videos which used to be fine.
Any ideas? Thank you.

Amendment: After another de-/reinstallation and a complete restart of the iPhone, the problem seems to disappear. If it comes back, I‘ll report it here. See this as a advice in case you may face similar troubles. :geek:  :!:

We are looking into that as soon as possible. Thank you for the prompt report!

I can add that I’m seeing somewhat similar behaviour on iOS 15.7.5 (iPhone 6s Plus), as well as 16.4.1(a) (iPhone 11 Pro), iPadOS 16.4.1/16.4.1(a) (iPad Pro 4th Gen).

Specifically, I can play any first video file just fine, but I get black screen with sound upon skipping to the next file. Minimising/re-enlarging restores the video, as does exiting video playback and then playing the errant file in question. All files via SMB.
Reinstalling/restarting does not seem to fix the issue for me.

However, I am not seeing it on iOS 16.4.1/16.4.1(a) (iPhone XR) and iPadOS 16.4 (iPad Pro 1st Gen) — here, videos play merrily one after another.

Correction: Dang it, now the 1st Gen iPad Pro is doing it, too.

The problem is probably unrelated to device shape or iOS version. We are working on it!

I am seeing a problem with playing m3u audio at version 3.4.0 of VLC, that was fixed in a prior version of software. The stream is not played as the player display attempts to open then reverts to tbe “Open Network Stream” page.

This occurs on an iPhone XR at iOS 16.4.1 (a) as well as an iPad at the 16.4.1 (a) release.

I also can’t open ANY video files since iOS 16.4.1(a).

Is this going to be fixed?
