VLC cannot play video streams

Postby juergen09 » 01 Mar 2022 19:00

Having used VLS for many years, I came to a problem for the first time (Many thanks to the develloping team!!):
I recorded from the TV and obtained a file with the extension ".tv" This video could not be shown using VLC. Alternatively I installed the program "PotPlayer" which could play the files and shows "MPEG-TS" as the format.
Avidemux showed the following file information:

=====================================================
Video
=====================================================
Codec (FourCC): H264
Auflösung: 1280 x 720
Seitenverhältnis: 1:1 (1:1)
Bildrate: 50.000 fps
Mittlere Bitrate: 13631 kbps
Gesamtdauer: 00:05:12,100

=====================================================
Extradata des Video-Codecs
=====================================================
Größe: 0

=====================================================
Audio (4 aktive Tonspuren)
=====================================================
Codec: MP2
Kanäle: Stereo
Bitrate: 32000 Bps / 256 kbps
Abtastrate: 48000 Hz
Gesamtdauer: 00:05:11,400

Using Avidemux I successfully converted th TS-file to a MP4-file (and could play it in VLC).
Do I need additional codecs for VLC?

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.

And upload a short sample of your original problematic file to Zippyshare.com or to WeTransfer.com and then post the link to the file here.
https://www.zippyshare.com
https://wetransfer.com

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 35#p193335
200 MB max should be enough.

Thank you.
The logfile is shown below. The upload of a sample file (16MB) to Zippyshare is problematic: Zippyshare responds "403 Forbidden" when I follow your link.
This is the link I obtained at wetransfer.com: https://we.tl/t-BQT2Lbuks5

As the Logfile is to long (>20000char.), I pasted the full resulting log on Pastebin.com. However, without any experience with Pastebin, I ignore, where the file might be stored....

Yes, I can reproduce the issue while it's playing fine with other players.

You should create a new ticket on the VLC Trac with your above report, the link to your sample file and the link to this thread:

the actual properties of the sample file:
Video: MPEG2 Video 720x576 (16:9) 25fps [V: mpeg2 main, yuv420p, 720x576]
Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz stereo 384kbps [A: ac3, 48000 Hz, stereo, 384 kb/s]
Audio: MPEG Audio 48000Hz stereo 192kbps [A: mp2, 48000 Hz, stereo, 192 kb/s]
however, playback statistics report the framerate at 50fps and not 25fps while everything else is correctly interpreted by the MPC player.
