Running Win7 and/or Win8---when downloading a video online once its in the folder VLC opens and begins playing---how can I disable that feature?
I've searched through Tools, Preferences and Options but can't seem to locate disable.
TIA!

Changing the settings in the Win Control Panel worked perfectly for me---I'm using Win 7 & Win 8.1 FWIW though.Any luck?
I actually want to do the opposite for a friend who wants DVD movies to start, full-screen, in VLC, but no luck so far.
The auto-play section of the Control Panel (Win10-1909) has many options: Find a new app, Browse with TCUP(!), do nothing, Open in File Explorer, Ask.
I'll hunt elsewhere and report, FYI.
This happens with files already stored on my PC, both of them in fact. My process is saving (and sometimes renaming a video) to a folder and associating it all video's with VLC. When I double click or select from VLC "open media" they start playing immediately.Make sure you download the video to your computer with your browser ("Save File"), and not select "Open with" which will automatically run VLC at the end of the download.
When I double click or select from VLC "open media" they start playing immediately.
I'd prefer it appear in the VLC playback window but be in the "pause" mode. Even when I use the VLC top tool bar where "open media" is an option when I click on a file it starts playing---I'm trying to force VLC to let me start manually from the user interface at the bottom of my configured VLC.I'm confused. What exactly d'you want to happen when you double click an audio, or video file if it's not to start playing them?
