kodi playing DVD but VLC can't

Hi. I've been using VLC for years without a single issue. Thank you to all who have created and now managing this great player. I recently burned a DVD encoded to NTSC from a MP4 video (no chapters). Went to play it and saw the menu come up, pressed the play icon, the menu remained on screen as the audio played ok. No Video. Thought it was a Microsoft update which has the nasty habit of making people's DVD burner/players inoperable. After much hair pulling (over 3 days - thinking it was my player) I decided to try kodi. It worked. Abolutely no ideo why the DVD worked on Kodi and not with VLC. I hope my experience can be of some use to VLC.
