VLC Android APK Install Question

Postby stardomains » 13 Aug 2020 20:58

I like to test/tryout the nightlies and install them my OnePlus 7T. I don't have any problems doing this.

But why am I unable to install the apk from this directory?

https://artifacts.videolan.org/vlc-android/release/

See below for picture. I have tried uninstalling the nightlies and the regular release VLC and it still won't let me install that particular VLC apk.

It's hard to say without the error text. it's unfortunate that there is no option to see it directly on the device.

Could you try to install the app with adb and get the error text?

I got the exact same installation error on a Samsung running Android 10 when trying to install it over RC2.
I'll try with ADB later this week end.

This is what I get from ABD:
Performing Streamed Install
adb: failed to install VLC-Android-3.3.0-RC-4-arm64-v8a.apk: Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES: Package /data/app/vmdl737153201.tmp/base.apk has no certificates at entry AndroidManifest.xml]

Is this apk even meant to be installed by testers? Beats me. I just can't install it. Just curious really.

This page displays the build done by our CI servers. These builds are not signed and should not be used. To get a signed build, you have to either install from the "nightly" folder (for example https://artifacts.videolan.org/vlc-andr ... tly-arm64/) or from th testing directory here: http://get.videolan.org/testing/android/
The latest beta is tagged 3.2.92
