The main use cases for the plugin are RTSP (web cams), multicast (IPTV) and plain HTTP or FTP (non-HTML5 audio/video files).

Why would somebody use the browser plugin for YouTube, when they can just watch YouTube directly in the browser.
I am having issues with Firefox 52.9.0 ESR and VLC plugin wirh VLC 3.0.10 installed. I get messages like VLC plugin is not responding and/or browser stops responding. Anyone have some sites they use so I can test the plugin is working for my PC?

Now that VLC can output playback to Chromecast it has renewed my curiosity in using plugin.

The failure could very well be caused by a bug that is triggered by the specific page being viewed.

You can still find example HTML to embed the VLC plug-in, but then again, do keep in mind that this is no longer maintained or supported by anybody.

Youtube can be viewed with VLC plugin. You must install an extension ViewTube https://addons.mozilla.org/ru/firefox/addon/viewtube/
In the extension settings, change the settings
