Can I install VLC 3.x on Ubuntu 16.0.4?

I tried adding this:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:videolan/master-daily

But the latest VLC I still seem to get is 2.2.2.

So, is there any way to install some newer version on this old machine?

You can always build it and the dependencies yourself.
