VLC media player v3.0.8 stops recording sound after a few moments

Hi there

I have a direct link to a German public TV broadcaster and have always recorded some sports program in the past with currently VLC media player v3.0.8 64 Bit with no problem. [url]https://mcdn.daserste.de/daserste/de/master.m3u8[/url] would require VPN for German IP address if located elsewhere.
In the recent past, I noted when I tried to play back the video, I hear the corresponding commentary but this stops after a few moments leaving the rest of the video to run without sound. I thought it had something to do with the audio driver, updated it, but no other application has a problem with audio.
This is very frustrating. Yesterday this happened for 2 separate recordings.
My notebook has the latest version & build of Windows 10 Pro, all available updates installed. Same for all other software.

Before this post, I tried again to record a short clip and after about 10 secs, the recorded clip goes on without sound. Another program OnlineTV 16 recorded a 10 min. clip and on playing, no sound issues.

What could be going on? I suspect that only has to do with the VLC player.

I can confirm the missing Audio-Track from recorded URL https://mcdn.daserste.de/daserste/de/master.m3u8 with the TV-Program "Das Erste" in my VLC-Player Version 3.0.8 (64-Bit) under Windows 7.
My Record-File has 3 Minutes Playtime without the Audio-Track to listen.
But in the Metadata-Codec from the recorded File are a Video- (Stream 1) and a Audio-Track (Stream 0).

For me, the VLC-Player Version 3.0.7.1 (64-Bit) works fine with the Stream-URL https://mcdn.daserste.de/daserste/de/master.m3u8 under Windows 10.

The recorded *.mp4 File (tested 2 Minutes) plays the Audio- and Video-Track without any trouble.

Try to install VLC-Player Version 3.0.7.1.

Do you happen to live in Germany if I may ask? If so, you might know MediathekView from [url]https://mediathekview.de/download/[/url], a program that helps to access up to 30 livestreams from German public broadcasters + lots of their online archives. All streams almost certainly presuppose a German IP, probably Swiss & Austrian as well, as some of their content is there. The program probably has the interface only in German & requires understanding some German to be able to do a thing or 2, like finding live-streams vs archives or specific broadcaster.

Yesterday after reading your response, in the course of the day, I decided to try recording a clip again with the same VLC version 3.0.8 and from same URL live stream and surprisingly, for the about 90 sec clip, no problem with sound.

I wanted to see if the problem only affected ARD/Das Erste stream or live streams of other broadcasters as well and so started MediathekView. This program plays the streams using VLC, which must be installed.
I was able to record short clips from live streams + archives of ZDF, Arte and I think 3Sat with VLC. Also no problem.

I always record a clip of Sportschau, a football show on Saturdays featuring my club, but realized the last 2 or so weeks, that audio would be missing when I tried playing it later, and the time I made the first post, also 2 other separate & subsequent clips also had no sound.

As I was writing this today, I started recording from that same URL live stream, a 6 min clip, ... no problem with sound - with v3.0.8.

So I am a bit confused. The fact that I have this happen for same stream/same show 2 Saturdays in a row, and a separate random trial on the day of above post and you also confirm it, shows there's a problem somewhere, at least at some times. It would not have been confusing if it had the audio issue for all recordings or a specific broadcast or broadcaster, etc.

The problem is finding what is behind it, if VLC, then may be some solution could be found.
On Saturday, I will certainly try out the alternative stream URL you suggest as I do not want to miss the specific Sport show.

You might be right about v3.0.7, ... but again, you had the same issue, at least with the original => [url]https://mcdn.daserste.de/daserste/de/master.m3u8[/url], unless for the test, you reverted to the older version. ... This is certainly a recent problem, because I had not had a similar issue before it seems to have started within the last 3 weeks or so, so it could as well be version-related. It's possible I updated VLC in the last couple of weeks.

Yes, I live in Germany.
MediathekView is a known Solution for an easy Acces to TV-Content from german Public Broadcasters.
For translate German Language you could apply online Translator, like:

or
- https://dict.leo.org/englisch-deutsch/
and learn some Words in German.

The VLC-Player Version 3.0.8 has more trouble with "Http Live Streams" (HLS), which are also used by the public Broadcasters.
The Version 3.0.7.1 is a bit more stable or solid for HLS, than the Version 3.0.8.

I think the best thing for now is to revert to Version 3.0.7.1 until further notice, until a new version comes out, hopefully with the issue resolved.

Since I did not know you live in Germany, I was just warning you, just in case you wanted to try out MediathekView, that the interface language might only be in German.

Unfortunately, I still have problems with ZDF stream in any (including nightlies) version of VLC.
