VLC PLayer not using my Nvidia GPU?

Postby opponent12 » 28 Jan 2020 06:12

Does anyone know how to make the player use the GPU? I have a laptop and the player ALWAYS uses the integrated graphics card, nomatter what I do. I cant manually switch it in the Nvidia Settings panel, and I'm pretty sure Hardware acceleration never worked tbh. Does anyone have a workaround? Also don't ask if I updated my drivers, that response tilts me haha.

Make a copy of VLC.exe and rename it to VLC-GPU.exe
Now you add VLC-GPU.exe to the list of programs and assign it whatever graphics card you want.

Video acceleration works just fine on the iGPU and most likely with less power than the dGPU. It's not like gaming.

Anyway, the NVIDIA control panel code forces any "vlc.exe" process on the iGPU, NVIDIA reasons unknown.
