Specific videos not playing, even *after* updating the youtube.luac file

Postby UmberPhyris » 18 Aug 2019 00:50

The video in question, non-embedded: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-f7K5L75sU
The problem: It *refuses* to play, even though I other videos in a playlist would play.
Where the youtube.luac was retrieved, labeled 2 months old: https://github.com/videolan/vlc/blob/master/share/lua/playlist/youtube.lua (extension renamed from ".lua" to ".luac".)

May I ask if there is *anything* I am missing? Do I simply *not* rename it to ".luac", leaving it as".lua"? Is this file, once *again* in need of an update, whether because of the file's age itself or, yet again, YouTube?

Edit 1: The message I receive:
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'https://r5---sn-hp57ynes.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?expire=1566102941&ei=PYFYXYCGEJSUlAOjlbLAAg&ip=2601%3A588%3Ac502%3A2476%3Ad40d%3Ae3f2%3A3072%3A4cb1&id=o-AJP1GOuLq2S4BqDb6wfts_s5rVoM4A42AzS2YTNAGToZ&itag=22&source=youtube&requiressl=yes&mm=31%2C29&mn=sn-hp57ynes%2Csn-hp57knlr&ms=au%2Crdu&mv=m&mvi=4&pl=26&initcwndbps=2135000&mime=video%2Fmp4&ratebypass=yes&dur=98.266&lmt=1564726502423826&mt=1566081233&fvip=4&c=WEB&txp=2211222&sparams=expire%2Cei%2Cip%2Cid%2Citag%2Csource%2Crequiressl%2Cmime%2Cratebypass%2Cdur%2Clmt&sig=ALgxI2wwRQIhAOeZh3yD_Cd--Rz5R4cxXN6oWer1rRYBSqPYQ1XDPrr0AiAvtCy8QORcaNkVvl-Oz1hLqZ7hIGeU0bx0FcRaZNNrUA%3D%3D&lsparams=mm%2Cmn%2Cms%2Cmv%2Cmvi%2Cpl%2Cinitcwndbps&lsig=AHylml4wRQIhAL8UlYVg9TYY1UwjU0UPjuIJZvb4s1eb1zxz1vEDZDa_AiBhhbbF40KPpFlIQgB3Gc6xOo-IQXWrkm-LrtJDhXseGA%3D%3D'. Check the log for details.

Edit 2: What the log file says:
-- logger module started --

gnutls error: The specified session has been invalidated for some reason.

Try to set Standard definition in VLC preferences:
Tools > Preferences > Show settings=All > Input/Codecs: Preferred video resolution [Standard definition (576 or 480 lines)]
Save settings, restart VLC, then try again https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-f7K5L75sU

*does this*
.......ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!? The answer to my problems was setting the resolution to *standard*!?!?
...Thank you. Thank you so much. I mean, I honestly would *never* have thought of this.
...and while I am overall bewildered by the idea of needing to edit the preferred resolution to 576/480 lines, I thank you for helping me solve part of a problem I otherwise never would have.

Again, thank you. The problem you have helped solve part of was a *huge* one, by far.

I can play both Youtube-Links
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-f7K5L75sU
- https://youtu.be/2Q477I2tqmU
in the VLC-Player 3.0.7.1 (64-Bit) under Windows 10 with a manuell updated Youtube.luac-File.

Github "Youtube.luac" Content.

Look at the following Link for the Workaround to replace the Youtube.luac-File.

Good Success.

Make sure to save as "Youtube.luac". Not "Youtube.lua". Delete existing one.

Hello,

I've attempted the previous fixes and am still having an issue. This thread appears to be a little dated, so I thought maybe there was a different solution since the last response. To clarify, I've done both; adjusted resolution and downloaded an updated luac. However, I still have issues playing some videos. I managed to play two different ones this morning, but a third wouldn't play and I received this error message:

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'https://r3---sn-p5qlsnrr.googlevideo.co ... ARw8JQ0qAO'. Check the log for details.

Appreciate any help. Thank you.

If it's a music video it probably won't play at the moment. A workaround is to install youtube-dl and then download it to your own machine.

If it's not a music video we need the original link on youtube to be able to check it
