VLC 3 does not recognize chapters in .mkv files

I have a few hundred .mkv files with chapters. When played with previous versions of VLC, there are "next chapter" and "previous chapter" buttons. When I play these files with VLC 3 there are no chapter buttons. This makes VLC useless. This is a bug that will be fixed, right?

I just tested locally and chapters are being displayed without any issue.

Please provide your logs, and if doable, a sample file.

I have the same problem with .mkv files generated from my Sony AVCHD videocam or from a Mio dashcam, exported from TMPGEnc SmartRenderer.
Prior versions of VLC did not have problems with chapters in these files before.

Here are some sample files, with 4 chapters each, around 30MB per file:

Yes, I can confirm the issue with VLC 3.0.1.
MediaInfo doesn't report any chapter but MPC-HC and MPV do detect them.

You should create a new ticket on the VLC Trac with the links to your files and to this thread.

This is a bug in recent changes on the way we handle chapters. When they don't have names we don't display them.
This will be fixed in an upcoming release.

MediaInfo doesn't report any chapter but MPC-HC

Catching this issue just now (not easy when not reported by something we actively monitor e.g. https://github.com/MediaArea/MediaInfoLib/issues), and fixed in our snapshots https://mediaarea.net/download/snapshots/binary/ .

Well, your sample contains only one chapter with no specifications:

I don't know what to answer. I have opened a bug report on mkvtoolnix, the tool I used to generate the file
