Unplayable downloaded videos - How to enable/add "X11" video output mode, or other suggestions?

Postby stevenroussos » 06 Dec 2018 20:10

Some videos from a place I often download videos from, always reliable in the past, has in the last few months been consistently resulting in videos that will not play with VLC or any other player. Furthermore the "Icons" in Windows explorer won't show a preview image, just the VLC logo.

Properties in Windows Expolorer says it is a video and shows the correct length and size so at least that much of the header info is intact.

In some players the time progresses but the video is black & silent, so that part of the metadata about the videos is ostensibly valid.

Googling possible solutions many pages say to set the video output handler to "X11" or I believe "XMB" or "Xvideo" but none of those options show up for me.

>>> Is there a way to enable any such modes, or a package for VLC to install, or something missing from my system?

Maybe I am missing a codec but I don't know how to see what codec it uses and how to get it for my Windows 10 64-bit system.

Please follow instructions in the orange box to create the log files we need to try and help you with your problem.

To help you, we need messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure before you start the playback to:
  1. Open: Tools -> Messages.
  2. Set Verbosity to 2
  3. Start playback to reproduce your issue
  4. Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
  5. Then paste the full resulting log here between [code]and[/code] (or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)
Also don't forget to name your Operating System and provide the VLC media player version.
