Can't open Youtube network stream

Hello. I can't open youtube in "open network stream" menu. When I paste URL and click on play, there's nothing happened, just orange line runs hither and thither on the time line. No messages about errors, no messages in messages (ctrl+m) window. . When I click stop, the orange line stills running. I tried to uninstall with deliting user and cache settings and reinstall VLC, tried install older version, last version, but there's the same situation.

I'm having the same issue. I tried updating the youtube.luac file with the latest one from github, but no dice. I think youtube must have changed their procedures and the VLC protocol hasn't been updated yet.

Could you provide the logs and the youtube URL?

To help you, we need messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure before you start the playback to:

1. Open: Tools -> Messages.
2. Set Verbosity to 2
3. Start playback to reproduce your issue
4. Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
5. Then paste the full resulting log here between [​code]and[​/code] (or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)

Also don't forget to name your Operating System and provide the VLC media player version.

As soon as I moved that copy out of the playlist folder I no longer had issues opening the streams. So it seems it isn't enough to ctrl-c ctrl-v a copy of the old .luac file. You have to give it a different name or VLC will still try to load it. How odd. Thanks everybody for your help!

Create a copy by all means, but place it in a separate folder. So right click, New --->Folder and give it a name. For example use the date as the folder name such as 9-11-2018. Then right click the original, click Copy and then open your newly created folder and click Paste. No need to rename it.

Depending on how much disk space you have available, you can shrink the partition Windows is installed on (C:\) which will create a new drive. That's what I did on my own machine. So I have a C:\ drive and an E:\ drive even though there's only one hard disk installed on my laptop. I save all my copies, drivers, setup files, photos etc., to my E:\ drive.

It's a simple operation described in this tutorial with screenshots if you want to have a go. The procedure is the same regardless of whether you have Windows 7, 8.1 or 10.

Sorry for the bump, but it seems, this problem is back, even with the latest 3.0.8 version. Actually, YT videos can be opened successfully, but they cannot be saved via any method. Neither dumping raw input, nor converting is working. Anyways, using the URL from the bottom of the "Codec Information" dialog, won't let me download anything, even from a browser.

Well, i'm going to partially answer my own post, as i figured out, that saving/dumping is still possible with 3.0.8, but after starting to play a YT stream, the URL on the bottom of the "Codec Information" dialog must be copied and then reopened for saving/dumping in the Media -> Convert/Save -> Network window. Even though, this way, videos can be saved successfully, but all of these probably should happen internally, without any complication.

Same problem with twitch stream videos. I use Media -> Open network stream and paste url: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/518482262 to url fied and press Play. Nothing happens. Used to work vlc player 3.0.7 and when I updated to 3.0.8 stopped working. Used older version instead but now it doesnt work on older version either. Weird thing is that when I use Streamlink Twitch GUI program that uses VLC to play live streams it works just fine. Pity it was more efficient way to watch streams than directly on twitch when you have older computer.
