Should VLC 3 be pulled.

Postby Lobo204 » 11 Jun 2018 19:27

Had nothing but trouble with VLC 3 (crashing, sudden stops, weird colors), feels like I am beta testing. This was not ready for release. To go from rock solid 2.2.8 to this unstable version does nothing but wreck VLC's good reputation.

Been having same problems.. other post here > https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=144797
Rolling back to an earlier version now so I can actually use it, hope it gets sorted quick cos you are right about their good rep and people can be little patient for things.

Yes, it absolutely should.

I've just upgraded my existing VLC to Vetinari and as a result I've lost my media library. The media files are still on the drive but the new version of VLC can't see them, despite the fact that I clicked 'Upgrade and keep settings'.

I've just spent ten minutes googling how to reinstate the link to the media library but when I open the 'Playlist' menu, click the 'All' radio button and then try to select the Playlist icon, VLC just hangs - and the only way to stop it seems to be by using CTRL+ALT+DELETE to close the program.

Aside from the fact that it's not working, this is a stupid way of doing things anyway. No one should have to navigate through 'Playlist' to add their media library. When you install VLC it should ask you where the library is - that should be the first thing it does. This is poor usability.

Because your drivers are buggy.

BUT, you can help us workaround those, by provide messages and playback your video after:
To help you, we need messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure before you start the playback to:
  1. Open: Tools -> Messages.
  2. Set Verbosity to 2
  3. Start playback to reproduce your issue
  4. Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
  5. Then paste the full resulting log here between [code]and[/code] (or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)
Also don't forget to name your Operating System and provide the VLC media player version.
