In random mode vlc 3.0.3 skip folders without play them

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

In random mode vlc 3.0.3 skip folders without play them

Postby Amaury » 05 Jun 2018 12:45

Hi

I posted this in Windows troubleshooting but as it occurs on my lubuntu to (on vlc 3.0.2)...

Windows 7 x 64 vlc 3.0.3 Vetinari
Lubuntu 18.04 vlc 3.0.2 vetinari
Since version 3.0 when I play my playlist in random mode, when a track is finish it jump to a parent folder (album) load the metadata only for the parent folder (image of album) without open it and playing a track and immediately jump to another track. Sometimes it jump 3 or 4 times on folders before open one and playing a track.
And it is no longer possible to switch back on the previous play track.

All this is working with the preloading of metadata activate but it made vlc lagging (I've got 500go of music) so I disabled this.

Only one instance of vlc + waiting list for new files.
Random + repeat all.
Pre-loading and online search of metadata are disabled
Tree view activated
I try in advanced mode in the playlist menu an option in a drop down menu who ask the behavior of folders (none, open, develop) but it does nothing.

It really annoy me so please could you help me ???
Thanks.

EDIT I revert to vlc 2.8 which was working like a charm for me but please tell me how the hell can I made 3. working as 2.8 worked...PLEASE!!!
Merci beaucoup (mon english suck a little sorry)

That would be a bug. https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/

Let's get this fixed, Jean-Baptiste, because it's driving me nuts too. It should be an easy fix. I'm on macOS, in case that helps. By "let's," I mean the other VLC programmers, because I don't know the code well enough to be able to fix it properly, especially these days. Hopefully Amaury filed a TRAC report.

Also, I'm so glad you've stayed a part of the team and I genuinely thank you for all of your hard work throughout the many, many years. You've been an incredible inspiration.

It is not easy, but we'll fix it. Notably because 4.0 gets a new playlist with new random algo and so on...
