VLC 3.0.0 X64 - some serious problems

Postby phaolo » 10 Feb 2018 21:45

- AC3 tracks seem to ignore VLC's volume and just play at max (+_+)
Not even its mute button works.
Please fix this..

- AAC and FLAC tracks in videos, instead, are completely silent!
Maybe AAC causes slow seek too..
What is happening? :O

P.s: I have Win7 Pro x64, 16GB ram, i56600K

I can play both .flac and .mp4 (aac) and ac3 (with full volume control)... i use 32 bit version, try it.

Thanks but I'd prefer not to go back to 32 bit..
Btw I tried FLAC,AAC,AC3 in .mkv files.

Do devs still check this forum?

As i know, 64 bit is always in EXPERIMENTAL VERSION, so i prefer never getting it.

32 bit is the default version.

Ah, I didn't know this, I thought that the x86 at this point was maintained just for compatibility.
I guess I'll have to switch to it, I doubt the devs will patch the x64 very soon..

In my memory... i don't know if it's still so... anyway, since those label "EXPERIMENTAL", when i used the 64 bit (i get also 64 bit compiled software prefering it, obviously, when developers have both versions in main download page or in the setup itsself), i remember that, and never got the 64 bit anymore. I prefer "STABLE" versions, "EXPERIMENTAL" smells like beta version. Also look how 64 bit is well hidden!!! Maybe Developers can finally say something about it.

Please share your logs, and preferably open a ticket on https://trac.videolan.org/vlc (or please point me to the existing ticket)

Ok, I've installed v3.0.1 and the problems are still there.
I've posted the debug log here.
Btw, I've removed some personal data by adding this: [..]

Actions performed:
1- opened VLC
2- played a MKV with AC3 (max vol!?)
3- lowered volume with the wheel (without effect)
4- played a MKV with AAC (muted!?)
5- increased volume with the wheel (without effect)
6- jumped to ~5:00 (some slowness?)
7- played a MKV with FLAC (muted!?)
8- quit VLC

Please tell me if you need anything else, otherwise I'll revert to the working v2 ASAP.

passthrough is passthrough !
Uh, so which option can I toggle to avoid passthrough?

EDIT: wait, I've found it in Audio-> Output Devices -> MMDevice
(was this toggled by default in v3?)
The volume problem is fixed now, thanks :D

What about AAC and FLAC then?

You can't do 5.1 over SPDIF.
We'll fix fix to force stereo.

You need to reset your preferences or remove the stereo-mode one from the vlcrc file

We'll fix fix to force stereo.
But I'm not using SPDIF, I'm using HDMI.
(I actually have a SPDIF cable connected to my AVR, but it's on a secondary input)

Also, remember that all these files worked correctly with VLC 2.x..

You need to reset your preferences or remove the stereo-mode one from the vlcrc file
Umm.. I've found the vlcrc file, but it says:
stereo-mode=5

In the meantime, I found another audio issue -_-
Tested an AVI with simple MP3s and the audio is again muted..
Am I really the only one experiencing all these problems with the new version?

New log here.

About the vlcrc file from before: I found "Stereo Output" set as "Dolby" in the options.
I changed it back to "Stereo" and all AAC, FLAC, MP3 tracks worked again! :D

As I mentioned that was set to 5.1 PCM, and that's not supported by SPDIF.
We'll fix this to disallow such configuration

You weren't very clear, though.
You said to reset preferences (excessive) or edit a file manually (stereo-mode one?) for SPIF (I use HDMI).
I just had to change an option, instead.

Anyway, thanks.
