Playback of VP9.2 file not working

Postby janw » 11 Feb 2018 19:49

Platform: Windows 10, VLC 3.0.0 from Windows Store, Intel Core i7-7600U CPU (Kaby Lake)

Playback of a video file downloaded from YouTube in 4K HDR (3840x2160), VP9 Profile 2 does not work in VLC 3.0 UWP from Windows Store. The video will load, sound (Vorbis) plays back fine but the video remains at the initial frame. Seeking works to some degree but will also stay at a keyframe.

The file can be downloaded from the here: https://kodi.wiki/view/Samples - 4K video #15: https://mega.nz/#!hJdFEIBI!uSOjZtkkjIVY ... f47pCtFvdQ

By the way: is it possible to view some codec information in VLC UWP and how do I get debug logs?

Addition: playback of the same file (and also another 4K HDR VP9.2 file) does not work in VLC Win32 either (tried it with and without DXVA enabled).

Hi janw,

Thanks for the report.
is it possible to view some codec information in VLC UWP and how do I get debug logs?
For the codec information, there isn't much info available as of yet when you right click (compared to the win32 version), but it' on my todo list. https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc-winrt/issues/201

For the debug logs, it's at

Code: Select all

C:\Users\{User}\AppData\Local\Packages\VideoLAN.VLC_xxxxx\LocalState
Thanks for the file, we'll look into it.

This file is not decoded by the hardware decoder but in software. And you only see keyframes because it's too slow to decode the rest in time.
