Client crashes when playing back H.264/AVC files

Postby FFWD » 10 Dec 2005 15:08

Hi,

When I open this .mp4 video file, VLC 0.8.4 only plays back the first few frames and then crashes.

http://rapidshare.de/files/8922835/empire.mp4.html

The file plays back fine with Windows Media Player 10 using the Nero Video Decoder.

Here's an error report :

I have exactly the same problem with this .mkv file :

//edit : My system
Intel Pentium 4 processor 530J
Intel 915G Express Chipset
nVidia GeForce 6600 GT PCI Express (ForceWare 82.12)
Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2

I uninstalled VLC media player 0.8.4, deleted my preferences and installed VLC media player 0.8.4a.

VLC still crashes when playing back the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC files.

Is this the same bug as Ticket #432 H264 decoding issues?

just for the record i get the same problem as him on the first file but the second plays fine although has occasional jerks every couple seconds or so (using 0.8.4a)

VLC 0.8.4a crashes while playing h264

Postby Eugen50 » 22 Dec 2005 21:58

I can't play hdtv format file (Shrek 2, Nero AVC). VLC plays it for 4 - 30 secs (smoothly but from time to time image freezes for about 1-3 secs) and then image freezes for 10 - 15 secs (while sound still playing) then VLC crashes. CPU load is from 35 to 75 %. System: P4HT 2800 1024Mb NVidia5200FX WinXP Pro SP2 + All Updates (+ latest nvidia drivers).
