How to save an RTSP stream URL as a file to be open by VLC

Postby rybshik » 18 Oct 2016 12:47

My IP camera produces a video+audio RTSP stream, which can be open with a VLC player menu command "Open Network Stream" and typing in the URL: "rtsp://admin:passw@192.168.0.113:554/videoMain".

So, If typed-in directly, URL "rtsp://admin:passw@192.168.0.113:554/videoMain" works fine on VLC for any platform including Windows Phone 8.1

How to save such an URL to a file, which can then be open by VLC player to play the stream on any platform including Windows Phone 8.1?

Use the record wizard on the desktop version.

Thanks, but what I want is to open a stream in VLC app (on Windows Phone 8.1) by clicking on some sort of shortcut or file, which encapsulates the actual stream address:
"rtsp://admin:passw@192.168.0.113:554/videoMain".
If I just copy and paste string "rtsp://admin:passw@192.168.0.113:554/videoMain" into VLC, it works just fine.

Or, even simpler, - how to add a link "rtsp://admin:passw@192.168.0.113:554/videoMain" to a VLC play list or a media library on Windows Phone 8.1, so I can open the link in one click

You can put the RTSP link in a playlist file, get the playlist onto the mobile device and open it there.

You can put the RTSP link in a playlist file, get the playlist onto the mobile device and open it there.
In VLC on my Windows desktop, I created a new playlist, added a stream "rtsp://admin:passw@192.168.0.113:554/videoMain" to it. Then I saved the playlist to a file using VLC's option "Save Playlist to File".

Actually, I saved it three times, creating 3 files: a file with extension "M3U", a file with extension "XSPF", and a file with extension "HTML".

Then I copied all 3 files to my Windows phone SD card, to the root, as well as to folders "Playlists", "Downloads", and "Videos".

Then I run VLC on my phone and tried to open the files. No matter what I did, I was not able to open the files.

Further, I added the "M3U" file to desktop's Windows media library, then saved it with extension "WPL" and then copied to the SD card. No luck.

What else could I do to import/add a RTSP stream URL to VLC on Windows Phone 8.1?
