How to record audio playing from audio card?

Postby yetanotherlogin » 15 Sep 2016 21:08

Hello

I can't figure out how to record an audio stream currently playing through my audio card:

FWIW, I was given the following type of URL, which played fine but I didn't find how to save to a file while listening to the show:

Code: Select all

http://www.web.radio.com:8000/some.show.mp3.m3u
Thank you.

From the "View" menu, enable "Advanced Controls". Then record button will appear.

Thanks.

After recording a few seconds and hitting the Stop button, where is the file?

I googled for this, looked around the Tools > Preferences > Audio section, but found no infos.

"My Music"
Tools > Preferences > (Show settings=Simple) > Input&Codecs: Record directory or filename

Thanks. By default, it's empty.

As icing on the cake, I'd rather see some kind of VU meter to confirm that VLC is indeed recording something. Currently, it shows nothing, so if I'm in a rush, I have no way of checking I'm not just recording silence because I selected the wrong audio input.

VLC is mainly a videoplayer with some added benefits such as you want. May I suggest going with a program designed for audio... such as Audacity. It's free and it's quite capable
