Is the future bleak for VLC embedding?

Postby zopiro » 14 Jan 2016 14:16

As browsers move towards no longer supporting plugins, will we ever again be able to embed a VLC player in a web page in the near future?

Nowadays we have an ActiveX and an NPAPI plugin available upon Videolan installation, both of which will no longer be supported by browsers very soon.

So what does the future reserve for this player when Edge, Chrome and a newer version of Firefox start to spread?

That's indeed problematic. But we have a PPAPI plugin in the works, and maybe WebAsm will work :)

Wouldn't a PPAPI plugin be supported by browsers only for a small time window?

What is being discussed regarding wasm?
