Thanks, that worked for me as well. But I'm curious if this will negatively affect video quality. The VLC documentation on this setting says something like, "try to use hardware acceleration when selected."open preferences, show setting in simple mode.
click video tab, uncheck use hardware YUV -> RGB conversions.
click save, and restart VLC.

This issue also exists for me with x264.[...] but it always happens with x265/HEVC video.
