VLC is not playing a movie file on my Windows laptop.

Hi:

I have the 007 movie, SKYFALL, that is saved as a .m4v file. It plays on my iPhone 5.

On my laptop:
I believe that I have viewed the movie with VLC in the past, but now, VLC opens where I see the directory with the name of the file (sometimes it is in Boldface, sometimes it is not) but the movie does not automatically open and begin playing, nor does it begin to play if I click the Play button in the control, or select Play from a menu.

The file isn't corrupted. QuickTime opens and plays it.

Nor does it play if I change the filename extension from .m4v to .mp4.

QuickTime opens and plays both file formats.

Any ideas ?
