Re: O.8.4 test2 eats subtitles

Postby Guest » 12 Nov 2005 03:10

Today I tried to see an AVI with a .srt file. But near half of the subtitles were not displayed. One was displayed, next was not, next was, next was not...

I took a look on the .srt file with BBEdit. It was correct, and time code datas were correct too.

I restarted the playing with the 0.8.2, and all the subtitles were correctly displayed.

If this can be useful for developers... :)
an example where the subtitles were correctly displayed :

1
00:00:00,876 --> 00:00:02,294
Précédemment dans Lost...

an example where the subtitles were not correctly displayed :

1
00:00:00,876 --> 00:00:02,294
PrÈcÈdemment dans Lost...

if you choose :

- preferences
- input - codecs
- other codecs
- subtitles

and modify the option : "system default" to "ISO-8859-1" the problem is resolved

:D

@ shinto: The DTS decoder was removed from VLC after the 0.7.2 release because of legal threats. It is probably not included in the 0.8.1 release.
I see, thanks anyway. Good thing I still have the older version of VLC to play this file type.

MPEG4 video broken?

Postby Guest » 13 Nov 2005 10:32

Playing MPEG4 videos I'm getting this error every 10 seconds:

ffmpeg warning: ac-tex damaged at 31 24
(mpeg4@011F0C30)
ffmpeg warning: Error at MB: 823
(mpeg4@011F0C30)
ffmpeg debug: concealing 50 DC, 50 AC, 50 MV errors
(mpeg4@011F0C30)

With version 0.8.2 it's OK.

This version as serious problems with subtitles files.

It displays the subtitles and are synchronized, but it displays only a part of them, so you can have 3 or 4 sentences before having a new subtitle displayed on the movie ...

problem adding playlist entries via http_interface

Postby cellplex » 13 Nov 2005 22:07

Hi, with the vlc-0.8.4-test2 running on a windows xp pro PC. I have added the http_interface. I then from another pc open a web page to the VLC PC and get the normal web page interface for VLC. However with this new build (previously used 0.8.2) I cannot get a anything added via the MRL entry box to play.

In the screenshot shown, I have entered the mrl
c:\video\sample.avi

but this gets added to the playlist with the correct title but the wrong path.

It gets a path of c:videosample.avi which of course the VLC PC can't find.

choppy audio on nforce chipset

Postby fuzzie » 14 Nov 2005 20:35

hi,

vlc seem to have a problem with the integrated audio on nforce chipsets. vlc 0.8.2 and also this new beta 0.8.4-test2a plays choppy sound on avis (divx+mp3).

choppy audio - solution

Postby fuzzie » 14 Nov 2005 20:43

Oh sorry, I already found the solution in this forum. As MuldeR already said the problem is the Float32 Audio-Output.

So, go to Options - Options - Audio - Output modules - DirectX

activate the extended options and deactivate Float32-Output

Greetings :-)

Yes. But I still wonder why Float32 is enabled by default :?

Okay, it's not a VLC problem. It's a driver issue. But I think there are lot's of people out there with the problem. So why not fix it in VLC when it is so easy to do?

Transcoding to MPEG-2 broken?

Postby Guest » 15 Nov 2005 03:13

Just a sighting at this point; I've not had time to fully investigate.

Using the Win32 0.8.4 Test 2a installer, I'm currently unable to transcode to MPEG-2 PS or TS at this point. The audio appears to transcode, but the video does not. I've replicated this issue on three different systems (granted, they're very similiar in both hardware and installed software), but have not isolated the cause of the failure.

On all three systems, examining the resultant MPEG-2 transport/program stream reveals that the audio ES is present, but the video ES is missing.

Has anybody else seen this issue?

Digidesign

Postby Druphus » 15 Nov 2005 19:50

It seems that since the last official release and also with this beta that the application no longer supports digidesign core audio devices, that sucks pretty big..

@ Druphus: Did you read the OSX-specific ReadMe and watched out for hints how to use certain devices with our new versions? We are using a new audio-output-module now, which actually supports CoreAudio devices correctly and not just pretends to do so like our previous module.
You still need to use the previous module, if you want to have 5.1 sound, because this isn't implemented in our new one yet.

bug with subtitles, default language and subtitle track

Postby Guest » 15 Nov 2005 23:12

Hello all,
I'm using vlc 0.8.4 test2a, configured for subtitles autoloading.
I've also selected english as default language (I have put "en" in the
preferences -> Input/Codecs -> General -> Subtitle Language option).
This way vlc autoloads the subtitles and then auto selects the english one.

However this only works for .sub subtitles!
I have verified that it doesn't work for .srt subtitles!

I think that this is because .srt subtitles are simple text subtitles
without any indication of the language. Usually for .srt subtitles the
language is indicated in the filename, like "movie_name.english.srt"
for a movie named "movie_name.avi".
So vlc doesn't know which track is the english one, since it isn't saved
anywhere in the subtitle, and doesn't auto select the subtitle track.

To solve this problem I have tried to set the default track for subtitles, by
putting "0" in preferences -> Input/Codecs -> General -> Subtitles Track.
And it works, now the first subtitle track is autoloaded for .srt files.

But there is another problem now!
Telling vlc to use track 0 is applied to _all_ subtitles, even for .sub ones!
So it happens to see subtitles in languages different from english (when the
first track in the .sub isn't the english one).

A simple fix could be to not use the default subtitle track for .sub subtitles
if (and only if) it is specified a preferred language in "subtitle language".

Can you fix it before the final 0.8.4 ?
Thanks.

"advanced options" setting not saved

Postby Guest » 15 Nov 2005 23:13

Hello,
it seems that under vlc 0.8.4 test2a the "advanced options" setting
isn't saved, so every time I modify options I have to re-enable it.
thanks.

(I apologize for the repost, my earlier post was mistakenly posted in the wrong topic '0.8.4-test1')
Linux binary codecs loader. Now able to read WMV3 under Linux.
Hi,

I have downloaded the WMV3 codecs and am using a Linux distribution, where do I need to place these binary codecs so that VLC is able to access them when needed?

TIA
