VLC choppy playback - Windows Media Player plays better

Postby trueboss926 » 08 Jul 2015 17:18

Hello,

Some of my videos in VLC get a really annoying choppy playback whenever I try to play a file on my laptop, the video becomes distorted into pixels and the audio sounds terrible. I tried changing some settings in the options and I barely notice any difference. Here are my computer specs:

Intel Pentium P6200 2.13GHz
2GB Ram
Intel HD Graphics
Windows 8.1 64 bit

The strange thing is when I try to play the file in Windows Media Player, it plays FLAWLESSLY whereas VLC it just stutters and lags to the point where it's just super frustrating. I have tried testing this with an 1080p movie.
If anyone can be of help to get this to play smoothly with VLC, I would be much appreciated!

1. Some laptops have a low power mode that for me it greatly affected video smoothness even when plugged in. You might want to change that. An asus brand had special keyboard commands for this.
2. I also found this forum thread that talks about enabling graphics card acceleration in the vlc media player: https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=79953

Hope this helps.
