How to begin

OK! I'm an idiot!
I unzipped the file and there are 3 applications:
spad-setup
vlc
vlc-cache-gen
I figured that spad-setup would install everything to PROGRAMS
I double click and it says RUN and it says "Installer integrity check has failed..."
So I double click vlc - and it says RUN. I watch the hard drive light blinking but nothing happens after 5 minutes.
So I double click vlc-cache-gen - and it says RUN. It flicks a quick black screen in the upper left hand corner for about .25 seconds and disappears.
I go to my video on the computer and right click on one of the files. Go down to OPEN WITH and it doesn't give me the VLC choice.
...
Someone want to tell this moron what the heck is wrong - please?
BTW
I removed the file and opened the zip file again and it's all the same.

I downloaded from VLC's home page this time and now everything is working.
Should have done that in the first place. Duh!
